How to do Port to Port MTB

Here’s how we’d do it, if we were you!

We recommend basing yourself in the world-class Hunter Valley for Stages 1 & 2 before moving on to enjoy beach vibes and good times in Newcastle.

Wednesday 23rd May

Arrive at your accommodation in the Hunter Valley and make your way to race check in at Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley. Check in opens at 3pm and festivities kick on into the early evening. Come have a cold one with elites and fellow riders at the Lovedale Brewery, where the old hands will be happy to share a few tips.

Thursday 24th May

Stay put Comrade. Staying another night in the Hunter Valley after your Stage 1 finish at Audrey Wilkinson Wines is the way to go – enjoy the local brews & wines, delicious eats and spectacular scenery after you conquer your first day of riding. Don’t forget to set your alarm as race briefing is at 7.45am with race start at 8am.

Friday 25th May

Get a move on soldier. Check out before you arrive at Stage 2 in Killingworth. Make your way to Newcastle for the rest of your stay, after you roll across the finish line. Friday night in Newcastle will bring a special treat for our riders… more on that later #watchthisspace

Saturday 26th May

Make yourself at home. Cruise down to Cooranbong Park for your Stage 3 start & finish and then roll back to Newcastle to enjoy the many great restaurants, pubs and bars on offer.

Sunday 27th May

In the morning, make tracks to Dixon Park at Merewether Beach and jump on the shuttle bus to the start line at Blacksmiths Beach (be sure to book this bad boy!). Then you’re all set to celebrate and share your war stories at the Eats, Beats & Bikes Festival after you race over the Stage 4 finish line.

There are plenty of accommodation options in the region to meet absolutely any budget, head over to our Accommodation page for more info!

Shuttles & Bike Transfers

If you need a hand getting to and from Stages 1, 2 or 3 give the below crews a shout. As you’ll be starting and finishing in the same place for these stages, we recommend driving to the start lines. For Stage 4, check out our shuttle bus option here.
